Head for the Storm Shelter! – Now We Have One

April 26, 2013

photo (26)The weather experts warned us well in advance – this storm was going to be a dangerous one. So, early in the evening last spring the EOC emergency operations center was activated. And we watched the radar monitors as we conversed with the spotters in the field.

The monitors and the spotters both reported the storm was cutting a southwest to northeast path across Stafford County. And those reports indicated the emergency operations center might be right in the path. So, right before it looked like it was upon us, we told the public to seek shelter. And we looked to do the same. Problem was our shelter didn’t exist.

But, that officially changed today.

A precast concrete shelter was placed on the east side of the County Emergency Service building. Davis Electrical placed the shelter that was built in Kinsley, Kansas. The hole was dug with a backhoe and the two piece shelter was dropped into place – all within a couple hours.

Now, when somebody says, “Head for the Shelter” – we will do just that.
