Fireworks – Not a Joking Matter

June 25, 2012

“Police arrested two kids yesterday, one was drinking battery acid, the other was eating fireworks. They charged one and let the other one off.” Har har har-dee-har har.

Pretty funny joke!

Jokes are a good way to minimize in our minds the risk associated with the things we do that are dangerous. But, we all know it doesn’t really minimize the danger at all.

Yesterday, two young Stafford County boys were playing and set a field on fire. It took the efforts of eight skilled Stafford County Firefighters with four specialized trucks full of equipment to extinguish the fire.

One hundred degree plus heat made it real enjoyable. It was a real hootenanny.

*I would recommend that you leave the shooting of fireworks up to an expert. But, if you wish to celebrate Independence Day by shooting them off yourself – please recognize the associated danger. It’s not a joking matter.

Hope that they and their families are help responsible. Community service works well for kids that get into trouble. Helping wash the fire trucks might be appropriate.

Not sure how the little fellows started the fire. It appeared that Dad was going to take control in an appropriate manner.
