The Juggler

June 21, 2012

I worked thirty-two years for fully paid Fire/EMS departments before coming to four percent paid Stafford County. It’s plain and simple that the one hundred %ers don’t understand the four %ers.

I remind them occasionally, but haven’t had a concise way to explain it – until now.

It came to me at the end of the day – yesterday. The day started with a first aid class on the east side of the county in the morning.

Then back to the middle of the county for an emergency management tornado recovery meeting with state and local officials.

Before the EM meeting even commenced it was off to the north side of the county for a large structure consuming wild land fire.

While still at the fire we were dispatched to the south part of the county for a code red trauma.

So, what’s the concise way to describe this system? It’s one word – Juggler.

The small town folks must be expert Jugglers. They must juggle a maximum number of balls, drop less important balls when necessary, and have the fortitude to pick them all back up when possible.

You accomplish this simply by having the right people in the right positions with the right support. And, “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.”
