5 O’clock in the Morning

May 16, 2012

An early morning alfalfa baling job hit a stop point early this morning when a rear roller bearing decided to freeze up. The quick action of the farmer – stopping the operation and calling for the fire department – kept the day from turning into a major catastrophe.

Fire crews arrived and stood by as the farmer dropped the bale from the baler. The operation had been ceased before the bale of alfalfa had completely ignited. The baler will need a bit of repair, but it suffered no fire damage.

Ten Stafford County firefighters answered the alarm and even though they didn’t have a firefight – they were ready to do so. Stafford County residents have an incredible fire department and should be very appreciative.
