House Fire

July 22, 2011

Martin Burch came home Wednesday afternoon and found his house – located at 164 NW 80th Ave. – filled with smoke and fire. He immediately called 911.

Firefighters from Macksville, St. John, and Stafford responded. The firefighters found the main seat of the fire located in a back bedroom. The flames were quickly extinguished, but extensive fire damage required a major overhaul.

The room of origin was completely consumed in the fire. While the whole interior of the house was damaged by the heat and smoke. Considering the nature and location of the fire, firefighters did an incredible job of extinguishing the fire without pushing it into the core of the home.

As has been the case for the entire month of July the outside temperature again was well over 100 degrees. That made the work that much more stressful on firefighters. The extensive overhaul resulted in three brutal hours of work for the firefighters.

A fire inspector from the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s office was brought in to investigate the origin of the fire. That investigation continues.
