2011 Demo Derby

July 17, 2011

Stafford County residents enjoyed an exciting 2011 Demolition Derby. The weather was a bit on the warm side, but a late start time – coupled with a nice breeze – made the evening quite nice.

One of the few other good things about the dry, warm weather was the absence of mosquitos.

Firefighters kept busy watering the arena and extinguishing an occasional vehicle fire. Medics transported one driver who was injured when a burst radiator hose threw hot fluid upon him. The driver later returned to the arena.

Love Demo-Derbys!! Always wanted to be a a Powder Puff competition, but knew that just as I do in BumperCar rides…….. I get to laughing so hard I stop driving…….and then I would be smushed and stalled out, then hauled out! Would be fun to paint one up like a “Sparky” and enter.

The demo drivers are very passionate about their sport. The losers of the heats get a second chance in a heat just before the final – if they can get their car running. That format is a big component of the overall sport, because it requires super fast mechanical/structural repairs. They should video pieces of that activity on a big screen for the fans to watch.
