Slick Surface Causes Accident

June 20, 2011

A diesel transport truck started leaking fuel at the intersection of Old Hwy 50 and Hwy 281. The leakage continued onward up to New Hwy 50 and Hwy 281.

A pickup driver from Texas was driving on Hwy 281 headed south when he approached the Hwy 50 intersection. For whatever reason – probably because of the slick highway – he entered Hwy 281 in front of a west-bound semi.

The transport semi with a load of US mail struck the pickup in the driver’s side. The pickup careened into the ditch after the impact.

The driver’s legs were pinned and Stafford County had to cut off the door with rescue tools. The driver was then removed from the vehicle and transported to Pratt Hospital. He was the only occupant of the pickup.

The driver of the semi suffered a minor injury to his hand but required no treatment.

THis truck was leaking fuel for miles before he finally pulled over. My wife and I were behind him and noticed what was going on, so I flashed my lights at him and tried to get him to pull over. He finally stopped when he came to the intersection of 50 and 281. We almost slid off the road also and we were under 10 MPH. The road was covered so we called 911 to have them send someone out. Guess they werent able to respond soon enough to prevent this accident

Thanks Brandon. I believe the fellow pulled over and was visited with by a trooper. But, I will pass along this information to law enforcement. Thanks for calling 911. If you hadn’t done so, there probably would’ve been more than just one accident.
