A Somber Day

May 25, 2011

Two Stafford County residents lost their lives yesterday when a tornado felled a tree upon their car. The news people have told the story. What they haven’t told is the efforts that were made to free the lone survivor.

This rescue was very complex because of the tree’s shear size. Rescuers worked frantically to free the third occupant of the car, but ultimately had to wait for two large gin pole trucks to lift the large cottonwood tree. Once the car was pulled free from under the tree, the rescue was completed in short order.

Rescue workers, gin pole truck operators, medics, and citizens worked together in the rescue effort. They did their very best. We only wish the overall outcome would’ve been better.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the family.
