Shelterbelt Fire

March 24, 2011

Stafford County Firefighters responded to a shelter belt fire north off of Eden Valley Road Tuesday afternoon. A pit fire that had been burned approximately 2 weeks prior was apparently stirred up by the strong winds of the day. An ember floated into the nearby shelter belt and thereby igniting it.

Firefighters were on scene for approximately an hour and a half cutting down trees that had ignited.

Remind everyone to be “extra careful” with any outdoor burning. The humidity level is extremely low and the winds have been high.
