Emergency Service Thanks

November 23, 2010

Thanksgiving, as the name implies, is a time of giving thanks.  As I personally reflect on the past year, I can think of many to thank.

First, I thank my family for supporting my involvement in emergency service.  There aren’t many professions that demand so much time, energy, and risk.  I would compare it to a second marriage, one that often takes priority over the first.

Next on my list are the citizens of Stafford County.   The facilities, vehicles, and equipment we have been provided are top notch.  Many emergency providers in America would look upon us with envy.

The County Commissioners are the next ones up.  These three individuals are the decision-makers who control the big-ticket items.  They have been entrusted with the taxpayer’s dollars, and even though we’re going through tough economic times, our Commissioners have allowed us to progress.

But, it would all be for naught if it wasn’t for the last group to thank.  Equipment and vehicles – they don’t enforce the law; they don’t put out the fires; they don’t care for the sick; and they don’t provide the communications.  The Emergency Responders do that.

They call themselves – Dispatchers; Firefighters; Law Officers; Medics.   The name of a timeless Tina Turner song sums up my thanks – “Simply the Best”.

Have a Great Safe Thanksgiving!
